A prisoner “reviewed” the night he spent in a South Yorkshire Police jail cell as “nothing but four walls and a mattress”.
Part of their knife campaign, the review was posted on SYP Facebook page and received over 800 reactions.
Shepcote Lane Custody Suite was only rated half a star by prisoner Matt Chete, who wrote he “won’t be returning any time soon”.
The review read: “The hotel is a little dated and my single room was rather small and very basic.
Four white walls with nothing else to do but stare at them surrounding me and I wasn’t even allowed any visitors.
“I had a toilet but the stench of sewage filled my entire room and I didn’t even have a shower. Instead of a comfortable bed, I found myself sleeping on a metal block with what felt like a 2 1/2 inches thick waterproof mattress.”
However, Matt was very satisfied with the staff, describing them as “very pleasant”.
South Yorkshire Police said they just ‘had to reply’ to the review.
Their response said: “We are sorry to hear that you didn’t find your stay satisfactory. Bearing in mind your visit was completely free, we have to agree with some of the points you’ve raised.
“We’re pleased you found our staff pleasant, they did look after you well and kept you fed and watered, what more could you ask for.”
It adds: “If you wanted to end your night in a more comfortable and luxurious hotel, then we’d recommend that you do not carry a knife on a night out.”
The response ended with a classy: “See you at sentencing”.
A note at the end of the Facebook post states it is part of SYP knife campaign and they have used artistic licence to put it together.
